Programme spotlight: Celebrating Success & Sharing Our Learning Part 1

As the MHA QI Programme draws to a close, we reflect on the successes of the wards who participated in the programme and share the learning from the diverse change ideas they developed.

On 11th March we held a Celebration & Learning Event for participating wards from both the wider implementation phase and the pilot phase to come together to share their project work and what they have learned through being part of the programme, and to celebrate the positive impact that their change ideas have had for patients, carers and staff.

Programme spotlight: Celebrating Success & Sharing Our Learning Part 1

Over the course of the past 27 months, more than 1750 hours of ward-level QI coaching and 300 hours of executive coaching have taken place to support improvement initiatives to reduce inequities in patient experience for patients from ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds, patients with learning disabilities and autistic patients.

Over 350 clinical and operational staff and 50 lived experience practitioners have been involved in the programme, which has had an initial impact on more than 800 patients to date, with many more set to benefit from the change ideas implemented by ward teams as they become embedded and spread to other wards.

Wards team developed a diverse range of innovative change ideas, from developing more accessible documentation to enable greater coproduction of care with patients, to equipping sensory/ low stimulus spaces on wards, to developing bespoke training for staff on topics such as supporting patients to engage with visual decision-making processes, providing culturally appropriate care and the principles and practice of trauma-informed care.

Below you will find a recording from the Celebration & Learning Event where we review the aims of the programme, how it fits in with wider work nationally, and hear from 3 spotlight wards* about their experience on the programme and the change ideas they implemented.
